Veggie-my-whaties?

By Amanda Blog and Kiss

I wish I could remember how I stumbled upon Veggiemacabre’s blog one day, and give credit where credit is due, but that’s like chasing grains of sand in the wind (ooo, deep).

Anywho, if you are between the ages of 25 and 35 and would like a nostalgic blast from the past, surf on over and check out his ‘Where have you been?‘ posts: a collection of updates on obscure 80’s (and 70’s and 90’s) stars, and where they are today.

If you don’t find at least a handful of actors that make you go ‘OMG I REMEMBER THEM!’, then your childhood was definitely deprived of television (you poor thing), and you were probably doing something sick and productive like chasing butterflies or getting ‘fresh air’.

I would be embarrassed to admit how much of my childhood was spent in front of the TV, zoning out. (Dear Mom, why was that actually?) Suffice to say, these posts had me cracking up and definitely brought me back to those long childhood days back when TVs had knobs, antennas and wood-panelling.

Ain't she a beaut?

Ain't she a beaut?

I would plant my ass down indian-style on the floor a foot in front of the TV for hours, only getting up when I had to change the channel old-school style:

Woodpanelling to match the TV- now that's classy!

You feeling me yet?

Ah, the simple days of 37 channels (a third of which didn’t work). Man that just took me ages to find that photo.  I thought the internet was finally going to fail me.  Apparently ‘old tv channel changer box thingy‘ isn’t good enough.

Do you think it’s taking up valuable space in my brain that I remember that MTV was channel 13, Nickelodeon was channel 27, and VH1 was 34?

During the beautiful New Jersey summers when the sun was bright and the grass green and fresh, HBO would be free for a few weeks, and so I could be found too often rotting indoors, sucking up repeat showings of ‘Killer Klowns from Outer Space‘ and ‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen‘.  Wasted youth, I tell ya.

Where was I?  Right!  Veggiemacabre’s blog!  He recently earned major brownie points by finding out what Cindel from ‘Ewoks Battle for Endor’ is up to these days (not much…except myspacing apparently).  Awesome.

So go read and laugh and remember.  And if you are from the NJ-PA tri-state area, then read this post too.  You’ll appreciate hearing the old theme song to that news program, I promise.

You are so awesome. Thanks for the nod.
Speaking of crazy flashbacks. If you have ever spent a summer in Southern NJ then you had to go to Wildwood. If so, here is an article by one of my favorite webmasters, Matt, on X-Entertainment. I almost shit twice and played horse when I read this. I felt 11 again.

omg that article was great! talk about a tribute! I’ve been to Wildwood but we made our yearly trip to Seaside, also with a fantastic boardwalk. After years of bragging about it, I finally took my husband there last summer, and it was EXACTLY the same. Not a thing had changed- the smell of sun on the hot boardwalk, the rides, the arcades, the food. It was fantastic.
Thanks for that link! So sad that it was razed. Stupid pyromaniacs!

    Killer Clowns from Outer Space—classic!

Baron Munchausen–probably my all time favorite “kids” movie, though it’s really not a kids’ movie per se.

I recall one summer (I think I was ten or eleven…or hell, sadly I might’ve even been older LMAO) when HBO first started doing the multiple channels thing, and they had HBO, HBO Central, HBO Mountain and HBO West….you could literally watch the same movie back to back to back to back…..and that movie for me that one magical summer was Gremlins Two: The New Batch. I swear I had the lines memorized, and anytime that film is on I get all giddy with nostalgia.

Very funny stuff…I remember the channel numbers, too—and that old Storer Cable Box! How sad! How wonderful!

I just bought Killer Klowns on DVD. Sadly my flatmate has a clown phobia so I can’t watch it nearly as much as I’d like to. What a horrible twist of fate!

Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Ah, who can forget it. The Gremlins take Manhattan (or at least one office building in Manhattan). Next stop: The World! (Still waiting for that one…)
